SAMR MODEL

The Substitution Augmentation Modification Redefinition Model offers a method of seeing how computer technology might impact teaching and learning.

Substitution means replacing traditional activities and materials with digital versions. For example, scaning your lessons and worksheets, converting them into PDFs, and posting them online using Google Drive.

Augmentation offers an effective tool to perform common tasks. For example students take a quiz using the Google Forms instead of using paper and pencil.

Modification allows for significant task designs such as students setting up their blog or teachers using Google Classroom to post assignments or message students.

Redefinition level enables activities which were impossible in the classroom before, in other words technology allows for new tasks that were previously inconceivable. For instance, a Google Hangout session that takes place between students from different countries.
